United Way will host a series of 12 community conversations that will serve as an opportunity for individuals to openly discuss the matters they believe are critically affecting the lives of El Pasoans. The series is intended to help United Way better understand the community it serves and assess how it can work to address the community's concerns.
ABOUT THE COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS
For more than 93 years, the United Way of El Paso County has been committed to positively transforming the lives of El Pasoans through community partnerships and support of local programs. Through an evolution of it's strategic plan, United Way has been able to better serve the community, which is why in 2017, the Board of Directors approved a new strategic mission and direction to be implemented in the course of five years. Hosting community conversations is the first step toward advancing the strategic plan.
The conversations are inspired and modeled by the Harwood Institute for Public Innovation, a nonprofit assisting individuals and organizations in solving pressing problems in communities. Community conversations provide safe place where people can come together to talk about their aspirations, concerns and how they want their community to move forward.
Volunteers trained to moderate the discussion will lead the 90-minute conversations. United Way is inviting the general public to RSVP and attend these upcoming conversations meant for a maximum of 15 participants who can attend on a first come, first served basis. All opinions and thoughts will be noted anonymously.
Following the series, United Way will compile the notes taken during and overlap it with data and research to inform decisions about how the organization will move forward in supporting El Pasoans.
