1. Finance Assistant

 

Volunteer opportunities

As you know the United Way is a volunteer-based organization and we are continually seeking individuals committed to our mission to participate as volunteers. Below are the volunteer opportunities available at our office located at 1918 Texas Ave.

1. Marketing & Communications Intern
Marketing & Communications Intern contributes to the achievement of United Way’s mission and vision through development and implementation of marketing and communications strategies. Work in conjunction with the Marketing and Communications Coordinator.

20 hours per week, Experience in Marketing, Communications, Journalism or related field.
Two years of college and one year of volunteer or work experience preferred.

2. Office Assistant
Data entry, assist in filing and sorting of pledge envelopes and other materials as needed. Prepare campaign supplies, i.e. printing pledge cards. Answer the phone and take messages for United Way (6 lines) and YWCA (12 lines). Greet, announce and direct public entering the building. Separate and distribute incoming street mail. Assist Community Services/Labor Liaison with referrals, such as Food Bank and lending closet.

10-15 hours per week, Bilingual in Spanish preferred. Elementary knowledge of MS Office applications.

3. Part-Time AmeriCorps HIPPY Curriculum Intern
The AmeriCorps Program Intern contributes to the achievement of United Way of El Paso’s (UWEP) mission and vision by supporting AmeriCorps HIPPY program staff with administrative and clerical activities which support the administration of the HIPPY program.
Minimum of 10 hours per week. Schedule is flexible between the hours of 10am-5pm with required availability on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays. Intern will serve September 2011 through July 2012. 18 or older with the ability to pass a background check. Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and data entry knowledge or experience; ability to navigate the internet. Valid driver’s license and transportation preferred, although not required.

Ability to speak Spanish preferred although not required.

4. Part-Time AmeriCorps HIPPY Program Intern
Data entry, maintenance and creation of tracking methods for program data. Assist with the coordination and set-up for meetings, member orientation and weekly member training activities, on-site and occasionally off-site. Assist with the planning and coordination of National and community service projects, and celebration events to recognize members for their service.

Assist the Program Director with occasional entries to the internet based program data tracking system. General office duties such as word processing, faxing, copying and filing.

The AmeriCorps HIPPY program Intern requires a minimum of 10 hours per week.
Schedule is flexible between the hours of 10am – 5pm with availability on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and occasional weekends. Assist with off-site trainings and service projects. The AmeriCorps HIPPY Program Intern will serve September 2011 through July 2012 Adults over the age of 21 with the ability to pass a background check.
Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; data entry knowledge or experience, and ability to navigate the internet. Valid driver’s license and transportation preferred, although not required. Ability to speak Spanish preferred although not required.

5. United Way is seeking Community Ambassadors
Seeking energetic volunteers to join a team committed to raising funds for the areas of Education, Basic Needs and Income. Effective verbal and written communications skills, strong leadership skills, strong planning skills, strong presentation skills, strong interpersonal skills Intermediate Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills, Bilingual in Spanish and English is a plus. 5-10 hours a week.

6. Volunteer Action Center (VAC) Coordinator
The VAC Intern will promote volunteerism in the community by connecting people of all ages with opportunities to serve, providing community agencies with essential resources and information, and assisting the Community Engagement Coordinator with organizing volunteer service events.
External contacts are critical to success. The VAC Intern will focus on developing and maintaining relationships with community groups, businesses, government, labor, non-profit agencies and faith-based organizations. Internal relationships involve all staff.

10-15 hours per week. Knowledge, education and experience needed.
