Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) is the largest service event in the world. United Way of El Paso County is organizing the Annual GYSD.

What are the goals of Global Youth Service Day?

The goals of GYSD are to: mobilize youth (ages 5-25) to identify and address the needs of their communities through service and learning, support youth on a lifelong path of service and civic engagement, and educate the public, the media, and the policymakers about the year-round contributions of young people as community leaders.

Who participates in Global Youth Service Day?

Millions of young people (ages 5 - 25) in over 100 countries participate in GYSD.
Last year, over 4000 El Paso youth from local high schools, colleges, and community groups participated in GYSD by planting tree and flowers, cleaning up community neighborhoods, building moveable walls for a local shelter, feeding the homeless, collecting canned goods for food drives, as well as many more projects benefiting the community.

How is United Way of El Paso County involved in GYSD?

United Way of El Paso County (UWEPC) served as the GYSD lead agency for our area again this year.  UWEPC promoted participation in GYSD, provided training and assistance in service-learning and project planning, convened a local GYSD coalition with youth representatives to plan GYSD in El Paso, and served as ambassadors for the youth.
