1. Tell us about yourself.
I am a born and raised El Pasoan and a recent and proud UTEP alumna, eager to serve the city that has given me so much in any way I can. Prior to joining the United Way team, I was a media relations assistant with UTEP Athletics, a position I am forever grateful to have held. In my free time, I am most often spending time with my fiancé and my family, Netflixing, going on road trips with my best friends or attending UTEP sporting events.
2. Give us a description of what you do for United Way.
I am the Marketing and Communications Associate, focusing on handling all social media accounts for United Way, Young Leaders Society, Parents As Teachers, and RISE, taking photos and video of events, design, writing press releases and assisting and supporting our marketing and communications director. This position also requires coordinating media relations and maintaining strong relationships with broadcast and print media, assisting in multimedia production, posting and maintain the United Way website and being a part of the support team for donor recognition events, including workplace giving and community engagement.
3. Why is this work so important to our community?
Promoting and making our community aware of all the good United Way does for our beautiful city and its people helps expand our vision and mission. There are a multitude of different programs and events United Way helps with, spreading information about them helps get El Pasoans involved and assists in driving our city forward.
4. What is the most surprising thing you have learned about the community and yourself in your time at United Way?
While it was no secret how warm El Pasoans are, what was surprising was the enthusiasm and willingness our community conveys to give back and support their neighbors in any capacity they can. The most surprising thing about myself in my time at United Way is how much my willingness to help our city grew. I have always loved to make a difference in El Paso, but becoming aware of the many opportunities United Way offers to give back has helped my eagerness grow.
5. Share a quote that motivates you as a person and as a member of the United Way team.
“Perhaps this is the moment for which you have been created” or “perhaps you were born for such a time as this” (Esther 4:14). There is a reason I am where I am, around the people I am around, and right now I feel this is the moment where I am in a position to help my fellow El Pasoans and make a difference in this opportunity I was given.
