University of Pittsburgh, Sun Bowl Association and United Way Team Up for Volunteer Project in Northeast El Paso

Prior to cheering on their team at the 85th Annual Hyundai Sun Bowl game on Monday Dec. 31, the University of Pittsburgh Panthers staff, including Director of Athletics Heather Lyke, will leave their mark in El Paso. They have partnered with the City of El Paso Parks and Recreation Department, the Sun Bowl Association and United Way of El Paso County (UWEPC) for a volunteer project.*

Meet the Staff - Christina

1. Tell us about yourself.

I am new to El Paso, originally from Maryland.  I am also a military spouse with two young kids.  I love to be active outdoors: hiking, biking, running, yardwork – as long as I’m soaking up the sunshine, I’m happy!

2. Give us a description of what you do for United Way.

On November 15th, will you join us in being moment-makers?

It’s the season of giving, so we ask you: what would you give to help your neighbor? A child? A family?

In just one brief moment, a child, a family or an individual's life can change- for better or for worse. When it comes to the latter, United Way of El Paso County believes we all have the power to be moment-makers, providing hope in even the most dire of predicaments. Moment-makers are community members investing in the lives of others, because they know that when we help one person, we help all.

But we cannot do it alone.

1. Tell us about yourself.

I was born and raised alongside the US-Mexico border. I started my college adventure at UTEP and completed my Bachelor’s degree in Accounting at the University of Texas at San Antonio. I immediately started working as a State Auditor and continued doing audits for the next 8 years.

I currently serve as the accountant here at United Way of El Paso County.
