AMERICORPS VISTA

Volunteers In Service to America (VISTA) is a national service program, similar to PeaceCorps, except all members are placed at locations within the United States. AmeriCorps VISTA members build capacity in nonprofit organizations and public agencies to help them more effectively generate the commitment of private sector resources, encourage volunteer service at a local level, and empower individuals and communities. AmeriCorps VISTA members serve full time, one-year terms and are paid $513 on a bi-weekly basis. After a full year of service as a VISTA, members are eligible to receive a $6,195 Education Award to go towards high education tuition or student loans. VISTA members are also eligible to receive health care benefits, childcare benefits, defer student loans during their service, and gain non-competitive eligibility for federal employment.
