This August, Healthy Outcomes through Prevention and Early Support (HOPES) Parents as Teachers (PAT) will celebrate the growth and development of its families who have participated and are currently participating in the program. PAT, which is part of United Way of El Paso County's list of initiatives focused on education, has helped strengthen more than 400 families since its start in El Paso in 2014.
To celebrate the program, PAT will host an appreciation event featuring participation certificates, kid-friendly games and activites, community resource booths, and lunch for families on August 13.
Free to anyone in the El Paso County, the program focuses on enhancing parents' understanding of child development and interaction with evidence-based home visitations. With the help of a PAT parent educator, families learn to engage their children in learning and prepare them for future succes. Parents with children prenatal to kindergarten are eligible to participate.
