1. Tell us about yourself.
I am a recent graduate of Texas Tech University where I majored in Public Relations with a heavy emphasis on social media management. I have a passion for photography, singing, eating good food and Instagram-ing about said food. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my boyfriend and family, binge-watching the latest Netflix series and traveling.
2. Give us a description of what you do for United Way.
I am the Marketing and Communications Manager and I absolutely love what I get to do every day! My main focus is managing social media accounts for United Way of El Paso County as well as our Young Leaders Society, RISE group and Parents As Teacher program. I assist with graphic design, photography of events, editing videos and help out the United Way team with any marketing tasks they have!
3. Why is this work so important to our community?
I think social media is a great tool for nonprofits to utilize. It helps spread the word about our programs and events and also allows the community to engage with us online. It is also a fantastic way to get information out about volunteer opportunities so everyone in El Paso can conveniently find out how to get involved!
4. What is the most surprising thing you have learned about the community and yourself in your time at United Way?
The most surprising thing I have learned about the El Paso community is their willingness and excitement towards giving back. El Pasoans really enjoy working to make their fellow citizens’ lives better and it is a great thing to be a part of! Something surprising I have learned about myself during my time at United Way is how important having a sense of community is to me. I have always loved the places I lived but never pushed myself to get super involved. I now have a greater appreciation for people coming together to benefit the community as a whole.
5. Share a quote that motivates you as a person and as a member of the United Way team.
A quote that inspires me is “It’s not about being the best, it’s about being better than you were yesterday.” A goal I have set for myself is to grow in every aspect of my life on a daily basis. This quote motivates me in the workplace because I challenge myself to never stop learning and to work to become the best version of myself!
