“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” For Amber Flores, that idea isn’t just a quote, it’s a guiding principle that shapes how she shows up for her community.
As a Cash Administration professional at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, El Paso Branch, Amber also serves as her organization’s campaign coordinator, helping connect her colleagues to United Way of El Paso County. Through organizing volunteer events and supporting workplace campaigns, she creates meaningful opportunities for others to give back and get involved.
At the heart of her work is a commitment to inspiring others to recognize their impact.
“I love to remind my volunteers how important they are and why they matter,” Amber shared. “To really engage and inspire a group, I share stories that show how barriers come about and how the community needs passionate leaders to help break them.”
Through her years of service, Amber has experienced firsthand how volunteering not only supports those in need but also transforms the volunteer.
“Through my experiences, I have gained a sense of purpose and pride in my community,” she said. “Volunteering gives you an opportunity to slow down, appreciate life, and learn to give back.”
That shift in perspective has been powerful. Through acts of service, Amber has come to better understand the realities many individuals and families face every day.
“You realize that what may feel like a challenge to you may not compare to what others are facing, like hunger, safety, or access to shelter.”
For Amber, that awareness fuels a deeper sense of urgency and responsibility to take action.
“When I’m out in the community, I feel a responsibility to give back in any way I can. Through these experiences, I’ve gained a stronger sense of purpose and pride in my community.”
Volunteering, she says, creates something lasting, a sense of purpose, gratitude, and empowerment.
“I know the service I’ve done will help brighten someone’s future, even if just for a moment,” she shared. “And I feel empowered working alongside others who share that same passion to strengthen our community.”
Amber’s story is a reminder that when we give our time, we don’t just make a difference in someone else’s life, we grow, connect, and find purpose in our own.

This Volunteer Week, be part of that impact. Join volunteers across El Paso and help create meaningful change in our community. Explore opportunities and get involved at VolunteerElPaso.org.
