A Parents as Teachers Story

In 2023, my husband enlisted in the Army, and months later we arrived at our first duty station far from home with our baby son. Soon after settling in, my husband was deployed for nine months — and six days before he left, we learned I was pregnant with our second child.

I was overwhelmed, isolated, and struggling emotionally while my toddler also withdrew after his dad left.

Searching for support led me to the Parents as Teachers program and to Sheila. From her very first visit, Sheila brought comfort, encouragement, and joy back into our home.

My son lit up when she arrived with books and activities just for him. Slowly, I watched him become himself again.

Sheila became a steady source of support during one of the hardest seasons of our lives. She reminded us we were not alone and gave my husband peace of mind knowing his family was cared for while he served overseas.

Parents as Teachers truly changes lives. The connection and care this program provide makes a lasting difference for families like mine. Thank you for supporting my family.
